What Is Environmental Monitoring?

Environmental monitoring uses sensors to continuously track the conditions a site depends on — temperature, humidity, CO2 and air quality, water leaks, energy use and occupancy — and alerts the right person the moment a threshold is crossed, instead of someone discovering the problem hours later. It protects server rooms from heat, cold stores and pharmacies from spoilage, buildings from leaks, and energy budgets from waste. TITAN IoT supplies both wireless battery sensors and wired monitoring units in Ireland, configured before they ship.

Two Architectures

Wireless Battery Sensors, or Wired Powered Units?

One question decides it: is there power and a network where you need to measure? We supply both architectures — and plenty of sites use a mix.

Wireless Battery Sensors

Milesight LoRaWAN sensors run for years on battery and transmit through walls to a gateway — no wiring, no Wi-Fi, no mains at the measurement point. Fit one in minutes, add more as you go.

Choose when: there’s no power or network where you’re measuring, sensors are spread across a building or site, or you’re retrofitting without cabling — storage units, cold rooms, classrooms, offices, farms.

Wired, Powered Monitoring Units

They connect the sensors you already have. The HW Group Perseus reads third-party instruments directly — 4-20mA transmitters such as Druck pressure sensors, Modbus devices, meter pulses, dry contacts — and brings them onto one dashboard with one alerting policy. Nothing gets ripped out.

Around that, plug-in probes add temperature, humidity, CO2 and leak sensing — on LAN or PoE, no batteries ever, with relays to switch things and LTE backup with SMS when the network fails.

Choose when: power and networking exist at the point of measurement — server and comms rooms, plant rooms, panels, warehouses — or existing sensors and meters need to come online.

Wireless sensors report through a LoRaWAN gateway — one per building or site covers hundreds of sensors, and we pre-pair everything before dispatch. Wired units connect straight to your LAN or PoE.

What is environmental monitoring?

Environmental monitoring uses sensors to continuously track the conditions a site depends on — temperature, humidity, CO2 and air quality, water leaks, energy use and occupancy — and alerts the right person the moment a threshold is crossed. Instead of discovering a failed fridge or an overheated server room after the damage, you get a phone alert while there’s still time to act.

Wired or wireless — which do I need?

It depends on one thing: whether power and a network exist where you need to measure. If they do — server rooms, plant rooms, panels — a wired unit with plug-in probes is simplest and never needs a battery. If they don’t — storage units, cold rooms, spread-out buildings, farms — battery-powered wireless sensors deploy in minutes without any cabling. Many Irish sites run both: wired in the technical rooms, wireless everywhere else.

Do the sensors need Wi-Fi?

No. Wireless sensors use LoRaWAN — long-range radio to a gateway, through walls and floors, with multi-year battery life; the gateway uses your network or its own 4G. Wired units use Ethernet or PoE, with Wi-Fi and LTE backup options. Nothing depends on consumer Wi-Fi reaching a cold room or a storage unit.

How do the alerts reach me?

However suits your team: app notification, email, SMS or an escalating voice call for the alarms that must wake someone. Thresholds, delays and escalation chains are set up before dispatch, and the HW Group units can send SMS through their own built-in LTE modem even when the site network is down.

Can I connect sensors and meters I already have?

Yes — that’s a core job of the wired units. The Perseus reads what’s already installed — 4-20mA transmitters such as Druck pressure sensors, Modbus RTU instruments, 0-30A current signals, dry contacts and meter pulses — concentrates them alongside its own probes, and puts the lot on one dashboard with one alerting policy. Existing kit comes online without being replaced.

Why monitor CO2 and air quality in buildings?

CO2 is the practical proxy for ventilation: rising levels mean stale air, drowsiness and infection risk in classrooms, offices and healthcare settings. Continuous monitoring shows which rooms need ventilation action and proves the building is performing — increasingly expected in public-sector and workplace standards. Battery sensors with displays make it visible room by room without any wiring.
