What Is 4G Internet Failover?
4G internet failover is a backup connection that takes over automatically when a premises’ fixed broadband fails. A failover router sits between the fixed line and the local network, continuously checking that the primary connection is alive; the moment it isn’t, traffic switches to the router’s cellular connection — card terminals, tills, cloud applications and alarms keep working — and switches back when the fixed line recovers. Because the cellular link carries traffic only during outages, data costs stay minimal, and no staff action is needed at any point.

What is 4G internet failover?
A backup connection that takes over automatically when fixed broadband fails. A failover router monitors the primary line and switches traffic to its cellular connection the moment the line drops — tills, card terminals and cloud systems keep working — then switches back when the line recovers. No staff action is needed.
Will card payments keep working during an outage?
Yes — that’s the core job. IP-based card terminals and tills on the site network don’t know which connection is carrying them; when the router fails over, transactions continue over cellular. The switch takes seconds.
What does the backup cost when nothing is wrong?
Very little. The cellular link is idle except for keep-alive traffic while the fixed line is healthy, so data usage between outages is minimal. You’re paying for insurance measured in megabytes.
Do we need to change our existing broadband router?
Not necessarily. The failover router can sit alongside the existing setup and take over routing when the line fails, or replace the site router entirely — we recommend per site based on what’s installed and configure it accordingly before dispatch.
Is the mobile signal in our building good enough?
That’s the make-or-break question, and it’s an antenna question. Where signal indoors is weak, an external antenna — wall or roof mounted, cabled to the router — usually transforms it. We match a Poynting or Panorama antenna to every site as part of staging; see the antenna selection guide.
