What Is Remote Machine Access?

Remote machine access lets a manufacturer or service team reach equipment installed on a customer’s site — for diagnostics, configuration, updates and support — without driving there. A compact cellular router at the machine connects it over 4G or 5G, and a secure VPN maps each site onto a private address your existing software connects to, exactly as if you were standing in front of the machine. Because the router connects outward, it works on ordinary SIMs behind carrier-grade NAT, needs no changes to the customer’s network, and doesn’t expose the machine to the internet.

The same setup works whether you built the machine or you maintain it — and when the machine’s addresses are fixed by PLCs, the VPN maps around them rather than asking you to change them.

Machine Connectivity Questions, Answered

What is remote machine access?

It’s reaching equipment installed on a customer’s site — for diagnostics, updates and support — without travelling there. A cellular router at the machine connects it over 4G or 5G, and a secure VPN maps each site to a private address your existing software connects to, as if you were on site.

Do we need to change our diagnostic software?

No. The VPN presents each machine on a reachable address; your Windows software connects to it exactly as it would locally. That’s the point of the approach — the connectivity adapts to your tools, not the other way round.

Our machines have fixed IP addresses set by PLCs — is that a problem?

No. Machines whose addresses can’t change are normal — the VPN’s NAT mapping points a private VPN address at each machine’s existing local address, so nothing on the machine is reconfigured.

Can we keep our existing SIM cards?

Usually, yes — the routers take standard SIMs, so existing SIM agreements can carry over. Where new SIMs make sense, we supply low-cost multi-network IoT SIMs and manage them for you.

Do we need static-IP SIMs?

No. The router connects outward to the VPN, which works on ordinary SIMs behind carrier-grade NAT — more secure than exposing machines on public addresses, and cheaper than static-IP SIM contracts.

Yes, that’s a pattern we run today: staged router-antenna-SIM kits configured per unit and shipped to your production line or direct to site, at volume, with the fleet visible in RCMS. Your machine ships connected and supportable from day one.
