Data Centre Monitoring in Ireland From One Comms Room to a Full Data Hall
Rack temperature and humidity, water and coolant leaks, power, doors and smoke, watched around the clock and alerted the moment something drifts. TITAN IoT supplies HW Group monitoring across an estate of rooms, staged in Galway so every unit arrives ready to connect.
Hospitals, county councils, pharma plants and colocation halls all run rooms full of servers. Start with one room, prove the alerts, then roll it out.

What Is Data Centre Monitoring?
Data centre monitoring is hardware that watches the environment around your IT equipment: rack temperature and humidity, water and coolant leaks, mains and UPS power, doors, smoke and fans. It alerts by email, SMS, SNMP trap or a local siren when a reading crosses a warning or critical level, so a cooling failure or leak is caught before equipment is damaged.
It watches the room, not the servers. That is why it still reports when the IT systems themselves are struggling.

Many Rooms, One Standard, One View.
The rollout we plan for is the estate: a health network with a comms room in every building, a council with server rooms across the county, a pharma site with IT rooms beside validated production, a colocation hall with hundreds of racks. HW Group report over 150,000 of their monitoring devices sold worldwide, and the same units scale from one rack to the whole estate.
The same unit in every room
One monitoring standard, configured once and staged in Galway for each site.
Two alarm levels per sensor
Warning goes to email, critical goes to SMS, a call or a siren, to the right people per site.
Every room on one dashboard
SNMP into your own NMS, or every site in SensDesk with reports and history.
Grows a sensor at a time
Up to 100 sensors per rack unit on the Perseus 150, added as the room fills up.
Every Way a Room Fails Quietly
Each of these is invisible until it isn’t, and each one is a sensor on the same monitoring unit.

Rack temperature & humidity
Probes at rack inlet and outlet catch a failing cooling unit while there is still time to act.
Water and coolant leaks
Sensing cable under the floor, along pipe runs and around cooling units.
Power and UPS
Mains presence on each feed, plus UPS, meters and air-con read over Modbus RTU.
Doors and access
Door contacts on rooms and rack doors, alerting out of hours or when left open.
Smoke and fans
Smoke detectors and fan-failure inputs on the same unit as the probes.
Local action
Relay outputs drive a siren, beacon or ventilation when a critical level is reached.
Into Your Own Systems, or the SensDesk Cloud
Both are normal, and you can change your mind later. The hardware is the same either way.
Feed Your Own Network
- SNMP, Modbus TCP, MQTT and XML straight from the device
- Into your existing NMS, BMS, DCIM or SCADA
- Email, SNMP trap and relay alerts from the unit itself
- No cloud and no subscription needed, and no lock-in

Use the SensDesk Cloud
- HW Group’s own portal: every room and site on one dashboard
- SMS and voice-call alerts, history, scheduled reports
- Free HWg-cloud tier for smaller setups
- Can also run on-premise for closed networks
Alerts That Still Get Out
The worst time to lose monitoring is during the outage it should be reporting. HW Group give you three ways to keep the alert path independent of the site network and power.
Cellular backup
The Perseus 145 monitors and sends SMS over its own LTE. The rack-mount Perseus 155 uses the LAN and switches to LTE when the LAN drops. Ask us for the 155.
Battery backup
The Ares 12 LTE carries an internal battery for up to 24 hours and keeps reporting over LTE when the mains fails.
SMS gateway
HW Group’s LTE SMS gateway sends text alerts for the network-connected units in a room, with no dependence on email or the internet. Ask us to spec it.

Reboot It From Your Desk
The HW Group units tell you a room has a problem. A NETIO networked PDU lets you act on it: power-cycle a hung switch, router or server from your desk and see what each outlet is drawing, with no site visit for a frozen device.
Restart any outlet remotely
Switch each outlet off, on or through a short restart from a browser, the NETIO app or your own system.
Automatic restart
A ping watchdog power-cycles a device that stops answering on the network, without anyone having to notice first.
Metering on every outlet
The 4KS and 8KS measure current, power and energy per outlet to better than 1%, so overloaded circuits show up before a breaker trips.
The same systems as the monitoring
SNMP, Modbus TCP, MQTT and JSON from the PDU itself, and NETIO lists HW Group’s Perseus platform among its integration partners.

NETIO
PowerPDU 4PS
Four switched IEC C13 outlets for remote reboot, without metering. Ping watchdog and a power-up delay per outlet. Fits 1U with the RM1 bracket.

NETIO
PowerPDU 4KS
Four IEC C13 outlets, each switched and metered. Ping and power-consumption watchdogs, plus a digital input. Fits 1U with the RM1 bracket.

NETIO
PowerPDU 8KS
Eight IEC C13 outlets in a 1U rack chassis, each switched and metered, on a 16 A C20 input. Per-outlet energy supports billing power back per device.

Data Centre Monitoring Questions, Answered
What is data centre monitoring?
Data centre monitoring is hardware that watches the environment around IT equipment: rack temperature and humidity, water and coolant leaks, power, doors, smoke and fans. It alerts by email, SMS, SNMP trap or a local siren when a reading crosses a warning or critical level, so a cooling failure or leak is caught before servers and network equipment are damaged.
Is it only for large data centres?
No. The same HW Group units cover a single comms room in an office, server rooms in a hospital, county council or pharma plant, and racks in a colocation hall. A compact STE2 suits one room; the rack-mount Perseus 150 takes up to 100 sensors. Most estates use one standard unit in every room so setup and support stay identical.
Can it detect glycol leaks from liquid cooling?
Yes. HW Group state that their sensing cable detects water, ethylene glycol and other conductive liquids anywhere along its length, from the first few drops. That covers chilled-water pipework and glycol cooling loops as well as raised floors. The WLD-Location cable also reports where along the run the leak is, to within about 4% of the cable length.
What happens if the power or network goes down?
Choose a unit with its own alert path. The Perseus 145 monitors and sends SMS over LTE, independent of the site network. The Ares 12 LTE has an internal battery for up to 24 hours, so it keeps reporting through a power cut. HW Group’s LTE SMS gateway sends text alerts for network-connected units without relying on email or the internet.
Can it feed our existing BMS, NMS or DCIM?
Yes. The Perseus units talk SNMP, Modbus TCP, MQTT and XML directly, and the Perseus Industrial range adds BACnet. Readings and alarms go straight into the system you already run, with no cloud and no subscription required. Perseus units can also read third-party UPS, air-con and electricity meters over Modbus RTU and pass those values on too.
Do we need the SensDesk cloud?
No, it’s optional. Many sites run the units entirely on their own network. SensDesk is HW Group’s portal for customers who want a hosted dashboard: every room on one screen, SMS and voice-call alerts, history and scheduled reports. A free HWg-cloud tier suits smaller setups, and SensDesk can also run on-premise for closed networks.
How many sensors can one rack unit take?
The Perseus Monitoring 150 is a 1U rack unit with 8 sensor ports, 16 dry-contact inputs, one leak-detection zone and 4 relay outputs. HW Group rate it for up to 100 sensors and 1,000 values, including third-party meters over Modbus RTU. It runs from PoE, 9 to 30 V or -48 V, so it fits standard data centre power.
Can we restart equipment remotely?
Yes. A NETIO networked PDU, supplied through TITAN, switches each outlet over the network, so a hung switch, router or server can be power-cycled from your desk, or automatically when it stops answering a ping. The 4KS and 8KS also meter every outlet, and all three talk SNMP, Modbus TCP and MQTT alongside the HW Group units.
Can we pilot one room before rolling out?
Yes, and we recommend it. We spec and stage a monitoring unit, probes and leak cable for one room so your team can trigger a test alarm and confirm alerts reach the right people or your own system. Once the pilot works, the same configuration is staged in Galway for every other room and shipped ready to connect.
