What Is Building Energy Monitoring?

Building energy monitoring measures where a building’s electricity, gas, heat and water actually go — live, circuit by circuit — instead of waiting for the bill. Wireless sensors clip onto distribution boards, read existing utility meters and sub-meter individual systems like HVAC and lighting, reporting to a cloud platform that shows consumption in real time, flags anomalies, and identifies the significant energy users worth fixing. Because modern systems use battery-powered LoRaWAN sensors, monitoring retrofits into an existing building without rewiring, and typically pays for itself in the waste it finds.

Selected by an Irish public-sector organisation in competitive procurement: LoRaWAN energy monitoring reading the ESB supply meter optically and sub-metering three-phase distribution — phase one live from the basement board, designed to expand floor by floor on results.

What is building energy monitoring?

Do we need to rewire the building or replace our meters?

Current clamps fit around existing cables, optical readers read the flashing LED on the existing supply meter, and pulse counters attach to existing gas and water meters. Battery-powered LoRaWAN sensors mean no cabling, and one or two gateways typically cover a whole building.

Can we start small and expand?
