ATEL AN98C Asset Tracker with Camera & Motion Detection

The ATEL AN98C is a battery-powered LTE Cat-M1 asset tracker built around a different problem to most trackers: when location alone isn’t enough and you need visual confirmation of what’s happening to the asset. A built-in image sensor captures JPEG photos on tamper events, motion detection, or schedule. A PIR sensor detects human presence within 3 metres. An IR LED with light sensor delivers night-vision capture. A temperature sensor adds environmental monitoring. The result is a single device for high-value cargo security, pallet tracking, and remote site monitoring where visual evidence matters.

Camera with configurable resolution

The AN98C captures JPEG images at one of five configurable resolutions:

• 320 × 240 — minimum size, lowest data and battery cost
• 640 × 480 — standard VGA
• 800 × 600
• 1024 × 768
• 1280 × 1024 — maximum resolution

Resolution is chosen per project to balance image clarity against cellular data usage and battery consumption.

PIR human detection + IR night vision

A passive infrared sensor detects human movement within 3 metres of the device — useful for unauthorised access alerts when an asset is being approached. An integrated IR LED automatically activates in low-light conditions (determined by the built-in light sensor) so the camera can capture usable images at night without external illumination. A tamper sensor and 3-axis accelerometer add further security triggers.

Battery life vs image capture trade-off

The AN98C runs on a non-rechargeable 8,000 mAh battery. Operational life depends on whether images are captured with each report:

• 3,500 tracking reports without images
• 1,500 reports with one image per report

For project planning, reporting frequency and image-per-report ratio can be tuned to match the deployment window.

The AN98C is designed for flexible installation:

• 3M tape (factory option)
• Magnet bracket accessory
• Two screws or rivets
• Transparent attachment bag for shipping pallets and similar applications

Configurable to your project

Pre-configured application software and over-the-air firmware updates let the AN98C be tuned without specialist programming. Image capture triggers, reporting frequency, geo-fence behaviour, and sensor thresholds are configurable. The device also supports external door sensors (such as ATEL’s SD-D01) for integrated entry detection. For project-specific requirements — custom server endpoints, bespoke reporting protocols, or non-standard event triggers — TITAN works directly with ATEL to spec custom firmware for your deployment.

Managed by A·TRACS or integrated direct

A·TRACS is ATEL’s enterprise cloud platform, offering device management, firmware-over-the-air (FOTA), geo-fence administration, and event notifications via the A.RMS portal. Devices can report to A·TRACS, to your own platform via REST API, or to both — giving you a managed-cloud starting point with a clear path to direct integration as your deployment scales.
