Milesight WS202 LoRaWAN Sensor for Occupancy & Light Monitoring

The Milesight WS202 is a compact LoRaWAN® PIR & Light Sensor that uses passive infrared technology to detect motion or occupancy in an indoor area. It can detect movement within a range of 6–8 metres and send occupancy changes through a LoRaWAN network. It also includes a built-in light sensor that can link brightness conditions with PIR detection for smart control and scene-based automation.

For TITAN customers in Ireland, the WS202 is a strong fit for facilities management, smart buildings, offices, schools, warehouses, corridors, meeting rooms, shared workspaces, public sector buildings and managed IoT deployments where occupancy and light visibility are required.

Ideal for Facilities Management & Smart Buildings

The WS202 is particularly useful where facilities teams need to understand when spaces are occupied, how rooms are being used, or when lighting and building systems should respond to presence.

Typical Irish use cases include:

  • Facilities management monitoring
  • Room occupancy detection
  • Meeting room usage visibility
  • Office and shared workspace monitoring
  • School and campus occupancy monitoring
  • Corridor and common-area monitoring
  • Warehouse and store-room movement detection
  • Lighting automation and energy-saving projects
  • Smart building dashboards
  • Security-adjacent motion alerts
  • Public sector building monitoring
  • Multi-site managed IoT deployments

Milesight lists smart homes, smart offices, schools and warehouses as typical WS202 application areas.

PIR Presence Detection

The WS202 uses a PIR sensor with a Fresnel lens to detect motion and occupancy. Milesight lists the detection area as 120° horizontal and 100° vertical, with a maximum detection distance of 8 metres.

This makes the sensor suitable for indoor areas where facilities teams need simple, wireless visibility of movement or occupancy without installing mains-powered devices.

Built-In Light Sensor

The WS202 includes built-in brightness measurement, allowing the device to classify an area as bright or dark according to a custom threshold. Milesight lists the light sensing range as 1 to 60,000 lux, with 1 lux resolution.

This is useful for lighting automation, energy monitoring and comfort-focused smart building applications where presence and brightness need to be considered together.

Lighting Control & Milesight D2D

The WS202 can support occupancy-based lighting control when used with compatible Milesight control devices such as the WS50x Wall Switch or WS558 Smart Light Controller. Milesight also highlights Milesight D2D communication, which allows direct device-to-device control between Milesight LoRaWAN node devices without requiring a LoRaWAN gateway for that control path.

This makes the WS202 useful for smart lighting and automation projects where low-latency local control is required.

LoRaWAN Wireless Deployment

The WS202 uses LoRaWAN® wireless transmission and supports OTAA/ABP Class A operation. Milesight lists frequency options including EU868, making the correct regional version suitable for Ireland and European deployments.

Milesight states the WS202 is compatible with standard LoRaWAN gateways and network servers, helping it fit into new or existing LoRaWAN deployments.

For TITAN projects, the WS202 can be deployed with gateways such as the Milesight UG65 Indoor LoRaWAN Gateway.

Battery Powered & Easy to Install

The WS202 is compact and battery powered, with flat-surface mounting using screws or 3M tape. Milesight lists the device dimensions as 50 × 50 × 23.8 mm and weight as 40 g including battery.

It uses 1 × 1650 mAh ER14335 Li-SOCl₂ battery. Milesight lists battery life at around 4.2 years at SF7 EU868 or 2.4 years at SF10 EU868, based on a 30-minute interval, 30 triggers per day and laboratory conditions at 25°C.

NFC Configuration

The WS202 supports configuration via mobile app using NFC, making setup practical for installers and facilities teams during deployment. Milesight also lists threshold alarm support and Milesight D2D controller functionality as advanced features.

This helps simplify commissioning across offices, schools, public buildings, warehouses and multi-room monitoring projects.

Compatible LoRaWAN Gateways & Network Servers

The Milesight WS202 can be deployed with standard LoRaWAN gateways and network servers. The Things Network device repository also lists the WS202 as a Milesight PIR & Light Sensor with battery, PIR and light sensing support.

Common deployment options may include:

  • Milesight UG65 Indoor LoRaWAN Gateway
  • Milesight UG67 Outdoor LoRaWAN Gateway
  • The Things Stack / The Things Industries
  • ChirpStack
  • AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN
  • Actility
  • LORIOT
  • Netmore
  • Orbiwise
  • Milesight IoT Cloud
  • Milesight Development Platform
