The Rochester Story

A century of measurement, now wireless.

Rochester Sensors has been building level gauges since 1913. The company combines that mechanical heritage with modern wireless telemetry — radar, ultrasonic, pressure, capacitive and BLE — through a single product family used in more than five million field deployments.

1

110+ years in level measurement

Founded in 1913 and headquartered in Texas, Rochester Sensors is one of the longest-established gauge and sensor manufacturers in the world. Float arms, dial gauges, capacitive probes, ultrasonic, radar and pressure — Rochester builds all of them in-house.

2

European manufacturing in Shannon, Ireland

Rochester operates sales, engineering and manufacturing sites across the US, Mexico, Belgium, UK, China and Shannon, Ireland. Shannon is the European hub for sales and product support — local stock, local lead times, and EU-supported product development.

3

130+ products, one connected family

The Rochester range covers everything from a 6318 BLE retrofit dial on a propane tank to a TEK 880 ATEX radar on an oilfield chemicals fleet, and from a TLL155 cut-to-length capacitive probe inside a diesel generator to a TEK 766 LoRa ultrasonic on a remote water tank.

4

Platform-agnostic by design

Rochester devices feed data into Rochester’s own Delta cloud platform (MS Azure-based) — or any third-party platform of your choice. Multi-connectivity is built in: 2G/3G, LTE CAT-M1, NB-IoT, LoRa, Wi-Fi, and BLE. Battery lives of 5–10 years are typical, and batteries are user-replaceable.

How It Works

From tank to dashboard, on one product family.

Every Rochester deployment runs on the same four-step pattern. The hardware varies — radar, ultrasonic, pressure, dial, capacitive — but the workflow is the same whether you’re monitoring five tanks or fifty thousand.

01

Sense

Choose the right measurement technology for your tank: radar for harsh fuels and chemicals, ultrasonic for general liquids, pressure for tall vessels, BLE dial for retrofit on existing Rochester gauges, capacitive for diesel.

02

Connect

Pick the network: NB-IoT or CAT-M1 cellular for nationwide reach, LoRa for private gateways and remote sites, BLE for short-range gateway pairing, Wi-Fi for fixed-site indoor use. Multi-connectivity is built into the product family.

03

Configure

Use the Rochester Universal BLE app to commission devices on-site — hold a magnet on the logo for two seconds to wake Bluetooth, then configure reporting schedule, alarm thresholds and fill/drain rates. No laptop, no cables.

04

Visualise

Push data into Rochester’s Delta cloud (MS Azure-based) for ready-made dashboards, or send it to any platform you already use — Rochester is platform-agnostic. TITAN supports integration into your existing telemetry stack.

Proven In The Field

Five million devices, in every corner of the tank world.

Rochester Sensors hardware is deployed across oilfield chemicals, fuel distribution, propane, industrial gases, water utilities and waste management. A sample of the deployment patterns TITAN supports through the European range.

Water · Humanitarian Aid

Keeping refugee camps supplied with water.

An international humanitarian agency responsible for refugee water supply needed to be sure camps never ran dry — and to verify that the contracted water-delivery companies were meeting their agreed terms.

Rochester’s LoRaWAN ultrasonic level sensors were chosen for the cost, the measurement reliability and the long data-transmission range. Readings were fed straight into the agency’s own systems.

Camps stay adequately supplied and delivery schedules are planned to avoid run-outs. Cross-referencing sensor data against delivery-company billing also became a cost-effective auditing tool.

LoRaWAN Ultrasonic Water
Chemicals · Mobile Assets

Tracking specialty-chemical stock on the move.

An international marketer of specialty chemicals and maintenance products struggled to manage and track mobile assets used for inventory distribution — they needed both the level and the location of each tank.

The TEK 733 cellular ultrasonic sensor with integrated GPS was identified as the best fit. Tank contents are measured by ultrasonic and sent, with GPS position, over the cellular network to the company’s server.

Real-time visibility of tank contents and locations sharpened operational efficiency, and accurate data let sales teams service customers and manage orders better — with automatic order generation as the next goal.

Cellular Ultrasonic GPS Chemicals
Waste · Municipal

Smarter collection for municipal waste bins.

A major waste-management company handling municipal non-hazardous and hazardous waste wanted accurate fill-level reporting on its bin population to improve its recovery operations.

Rochester adapted its standard LoRa level sensor — refining the ultrasonic performance and mounting method — to suit waste applications and monitor the full bin population reliably and cost-effectively.

Crews now service only bins that are actually full, driving a significant improvement in operational efficiency and customer service.

Frequently Asked

Rochester Sensors questions, answered.

What is tank level monitoring?

Tank level monitoring is the use of sensors to continuously measure the contents of a storage tank — fuel, LPG, water, chemicals or food-grade liquids — and report that level remotely, instead of relying on manual dips. A level sensor (radar, ultrasonic, pressure, capacitive or a BLE dial) sits on the tank and transmits readings over cellular, LoRa or Bluetooth to a dashboard or telemetry platform, so you can track stock, automate deliveries and trigger low-level alarms. Rochester Sensors builds the full range of these devices, and TITAN supplies and configures them from Galway with technical support across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

Is Rochester Sensors the same as Tekelek?

The “TEK” product range (TEK 766, 811, 822, 880, 920) was originally a Tekelek line and is now part of Rochester Sensors following acquisition. Older product datasheets, images and packaging may still show Tekelek branding — they are the same products, supported under the Rochester Sensors name through TITAN.

Are Rochester Sensors ATEX-certified for hazardous areas?

Yes — most flagship Rochester sensors are intrinsically safe and certified for hazardous environments. The TEK 880 radar and TEK 822 cellular logger are Class 1 Division 1 / ATEX rated for Zone 0; the TEK 811 ultrasonic is C1D2; the 6318 BLE Dial holds C1D1 / IECEx / ATEX / UKEX / CSA certifications. TITAN can advise on the right certification level for your site.

What battery life can I expect?

Typical battery life is over five years on cellular-connected products, and over ten years on radar and LoRa variants. Batteries are standard-format and user-replaceable in the field, so the device lifetime is not capped by the battery.

Do I need to use Rochester’s cloud platform?

No. Rochester offers the Delta platform (built on Microsoft Azure) as an optional dashboarding service, but the hardware is platform-agnostic by design. Data can be routed to any third-party telemetry platform you already use — TITAN supports integration into common SCADA, fleet and IoT platforms.

What’s the difference between the TEK 880 and the TEK 920?

The TEK 880 is the flagship cellular radar sensor — ATEX / C1D1, NB-IoT / CAT-M1 directly to a cellular network, up to 10-year battery. The TEK 920 is a newer pulse wave radar with Bluetooth Low Energy output; it’s designed to pair with a separate cellular gateway or local receiver, giving radar accuracy in a smaller, lower-cost format. Choose the 880 for a one-piece cellular install, the 920 where you want to separate the sensor and the comms layer.

How long does delivery take from TITAN in Ireland?

TITAN stocks the most-deployed Rochester models in Galway, with European stock backup through Rochester’s Shannon and Warwick facilities. For in-stock items, dispatch is typically next working day across Ireland and within standard European courier lead times across the EU. Larger volume orders are quoted with specific lead times — contact us for a current quote.
