Plant-wide sensor monitoring for manufacturing and pharma — without relying on factory WiFi

Manufacturing and pharma plants need to monitor what they can’t easily see — machine vibration, temperature, humidity, valve movement. WiFi sensors depend on plant coverage and IT, and the batteries last months. TITAN supplies LoRaWAN sensors that run for years, reach across a whole site from one gateway, and stay on their own independent network — with wired HW Group sensors where mains-powered points suit better.

What we supply for plant monitoring

Everything needed to monitor condition and environment across a manufacturing or pharma site — wireless where cabling is impractical, wired where it makes more sense, on one platform.

1

LoRaWAN sensors

Battery-powered, wireless sensors that mount anywhere on the plant floor — no cable runs, no dependence on WiFi.

  • Vibration on motors, pumps and machines — catch a failing bearing before it stops the line
  • Temperature & humidity for process areas, cold rooms and GMP-controlled spaces
  • Valve position & movement detection for process and safety monitoring
  • Water leak, pressure and air quality available on the same network
  • Browse IoT sensors ›
2

LoRaWAN gateway

One gateway collects every sensor on the site and backhauls the data — over Ethernet where there’s a network, or cellular where there isn’t.

  • Indoor and outdoor (IP67) gateways for plant, yard and remote buildings
  • Robustel and Milesight gateways, ChirpStack-compatible
  • Scales as you add lines — more sensors onto the same gateway

3

Wired option — HW Group

Where a monitoring point is fixed and already near mains power, a wired sensor can beat batteries — continuous, no maintenance.

  • Server rooms, cleanrooms, fixed process lines and rack environments
  • Ethernet temperature, humidity and environmental sensors
  • Feeds the HW Group SensDesk platform for dashboards and alerts
  • See HW Group monitoring ›
4

Platform, alerts & setup

Readings turn into dashboards, thresholds and alarms — so a problem reaches the right person before it becomes downtime.

  • Email and SMS alerts on thresholds you set
  • IoT Factory, Milesight cloud, HW Group SensDesk or your own SCADA / platform via API
  • Optional pre-configuration and platform setup from TITAN’s Galway team

How it works

From enquiry to a live monitoring network

STEP 1

We listen

What you need to monitor — which machines, which conditions, any GMP requirements — and the size and layout of the plant.

STEP 2

We design

Sensor types per point, gateway placement for full coverage, wired or wireless where each makes sense, and the platform to land the data.

STEP 3

We configure & ship

Sensors and gateway pre-provisioned — keys, reporting intervals and alarms set, bench-tested and labelled. Ready to mount.

STEP 4

We support

Remote management, threshold tuning and expansion as you add lines — backed by direct Irish phone and email support.

A WiFi temperature request that became a plant-wide platform

Case study

From a handful of WiFi sensors to LoRaWAN across the plants

An Irish manufacturer came to TITAN looking for WiFi temperature sensors to monitor a few points on the plant floor. WiFi meant every sensor leaned on plant coverage and IT, batteries measured in months, and signal that struggled through machinery and thick walls.

The solution

TITAN introduced them to LoRaWAN and the low-power, long-range advantages — sensors that run for years on a battery, signal that reaches across a plant from a single gateway, and a network independent of the company WiFi. They started with temperature, then added humidity, vibration for machine and motor condition, and valve-movement detection.

The result

What began as a small WiFi request became their standard plant-monitoring approach. They are now rolling the same LoRaWAN stack out across their sites — one gateway per plant carrying every sensor — with the option to drop in wired HW Group points wherever mains power suits better.

Questions

Manufacturing & pharma monitoring FAQ

What is LoRaWAN and why use it for factory monitoring?

LoRaWAN is a low-power, long-range wireless network for sensors. One gateway covers a large site, the sensors run for years on a single battery, and the network is independent of WiFi and cabling. That makes it well suited to plants where running cable is expensive and WiFi coverage is patchy across machinery and thick walls.

Why not just use WiFi sensors in the plant?

WiFi sensors depend on plant WiFi coverage and IT — a password change or network upgrade can knock them offline, batteries last only months, and the signal struggles through machinery and walls. LoRaWAN runs on its own independent network, reaches across a whole plant from one gateway, and sensors last years.

What can you actually monitor on the plant?

Vibration on motors and machines to catch a failing bearing before it stops the line, temperature and humidity (including cold areas and GMP-controlled spaces), valve position and movement, plus water leak, pressure and air quality. Different sensor types run on the same gateway.

How long do the sensor batteries last?

Typically years rather than months, because LoRaWAN sensors send small readings infrequently at very low power. That long battery life is the main practical advantage over WiFi sensors in a plant, where changing batteries constantly is a real cost.

Do we have to run cables?

Not for the LoRaWAN sensors — they are wireless and battery-powered. Where a point is fixed and already near mains power, such as a server room or cleanroom, a wired HW Group sensor can be the better choice. TITAN supplies both and advises which suits each point.

Can it feed our existing system?

Yes. The gateway backhauls over Ethernet or cellular, and data can go into IoT Factory, Milesight’s cloud, HW Group SensDesk, an open ChirpStack server, or your own SCADA or platform through documented APIs. TITAN sets up the dashboards, thresholds and alerts.

Ready to monitor your plant the reliable way?

Whether you’re replacing patchy WiFi sensors or starting fresh, TITAN can spec the sensors, gateway and platform — wireless or wired — and ship it pre-configured. Optional on-site survey for larger plants.
