Frequently Asked

Industrial cellular routers — common questions.

Which router should I choose for my project?

It depends on three things: which carrier bands you need, how much data the application will use, and the physical environment. For small SCADA/telemetry sites the R1510 is usually the right answer. For sites needing vehicle certification, GPS or more Ethernet ports the R1520 is the workhorse. For high-throughput or 5G primary, the R5010 (or R5020 for FWA). Tell TITAN your application and we’ll spec it specifically.

Do industrial routers need to be different from consumer ones?

Yes for any 24/7 application. Industrial routers handle wider temperature ranges (-40 to +75°C typical), wider input voltage (9-36V or 9-60V DC), have surge protection, watchdog timers, and certified MTBF figures. A consumer router in a roadside cabinet will fail within months; an industrial router runs for a decade.

Does TITAN configure routers before shipping?

Yes — included in the unit price. We apply your VPN profiles, APN settings, firewall rules, password changes and RCMS cloud enrolment before dispatch. Power on at the site, and the router connects to your network on first boot. Custom configuration like App Center applications, port forwarding or routing rules can be added on request.

What’s RCMS and why does it matter?

RCMS is Robustel’s cloud platform for managing fleets of Robustel routers. Live signal strength, network type and data usage per device, OTA firmware and config updates, inbound VPN access (RobustVPN), a fleet map view and SMS remote control. The standard tier is free with every Robustel device — competitors typically charge per-device monthly fees for equivalent functionality.

4G or 5G — which should I deploy?

For 90% of industrial IoT (SCADA, telemetry, asset tracking, sensors), 4G CAT-4 or NB-IoT is the right answer and will be for years — lower cost, better coverage, lower power. Move to 5G when you genuinely need the throughput: digital signage, FWA, vehicle multimedia, dense industrial sites.

What’s the lead time on a pre-configured router?

Stock items pre-configured in Galway: next working day across Ireland, two to three days for UK and EU. Project orders requiring batch configuration are quoted per project — typically one to two weeks for a hundred-unit batch.
