Frequently Asked

Industrial Cellular Routers — common questions.

What’s the difference between an industrial router and a consumer 4G router?

Industrial routers are designed for unattended 24/7 operation in harsh environments — wide temperature range, surge protection, DIN-rail mounting, dual-SIM failover, watchdog timers, OpenVPN and IPsec support, and remote management. Consumer routers (e.g. Three or Vodafone hotspots) lack the reliability, security and management features required for IoT deployments.

Why Robustel vs Teltonika or other brands?

Three main reasons. First, free RCMS cloud management — Robustel includes this at no charge for the device lifetime; Teltonika’s equivalent (RMS) is paid. Second, full Linux SDK access — you can run Python, Node-RED, custom binaries, and Docker on Robustel devices. Third, longer hardware lifecycle support — Robustel actively supports devices for 7+ years. That said, we stock multiple brands for compatibility reasons; TITAN spec-matches the router to the deployment rather than pushing one brand.

Do you pre-configure routers before dispatch?

Yes. As part of every router purchase, TITAN applies your APN, VPN credentials, firewall rules, DDNS settings, RCMS enrolment and SIM activation before the router leaves Galway. The device powers on, connects, and reports to your monitoring platform immediately — no configuration work needed at the deployment site. Typical turnaround is 24 hours from order confirmation.

Which router do I need for outdoor deployment?

For outdoor or harsh-environment deployments, you want an IP67 or IP69K-rated enclosure. The Robustel R1520G is our go-to for general outdoor (digital signage, event WiFi, agricultural sensors). For permanent rural installations needing better signal pickup, pair it with a Poynting LPMM-7-27 directional antenna. For full coverage of options, talk to TITAN — outdoor deployments depend heavily on signal strength surveys and mounting constraints.

Can I get a router with both 4G and 5G fallback?

Yes — all 5G routers in our range (R5010, ICR-4433, R5020) automatically fall back to 4G LTE if 5G isn’t available. This is standard in industrial 5G hardware. Dual-SIM models additionally let you fail over to a second carrier if the primary fails. For mission-critical sites, we’d recommend dual-SIM dual-carrier with 5G+4G fallback configured at the firmware level.

What support do TITAN provide after I buy a router?

Direct phone and email support from Galway-based engineers, free RCMS cloud account, firmware update notifications, and replacement units within Ireland on next-day where available. For complex deployments (manufacturing, utilities, public sector) we also offer optional on-site commissioning and integration support — quoted per project.
